Broke during first use. Do Not Buy!!!

I bought this shovel after reading mostly good user reviews. I have always felt confident with Amazon product reviews. I went with this one because it seemed to be made of high quality materials and workmanship. When it arrived I wanted to try it out on my current gardening project. I had been using a fourteen year old shovel with a homemade handle. It was working but well but was getting close to retirement. The new shovel seemed to be well built and sturdy. The handle was red oak and the blade was heavy and looked like stainless steel. I stuck it into the ground and pulled back to dig a scoop full of dirt. It wasn't even very deep because I was just testing to see how it would work. When I pulled back on the handle it broke instantly with little to no stress on it. I couldn't believe that it broke with so little effort. After I calmed down a little I contacted Brook & Hunter about their limited lifetime warranty. When they finally got back to me they told me that I had to pay shipping handling charges even though it was a brand new defective product. It took more correspondence the get the actual charges of $28.99 which was almost 60% of the original purchase price. I am not going to pay more money for a product that is initially defective. During this time the stainless steel blade developed rust. Stainless??? I hope this helps someone who wants good durable tools to purchase somewhere else.

Remarkable tool indeed. This digging spade is incredibly well built. It has a really strong handle and the blade has kept a good cutting edge. I love the grip on the handle. The shovel is beautiful and looks great after 1 month of almost everyday use. It just feels like it would last a lifetime. I would highly recommend this tool. I plan to buy more from this great brand.
